Heres everything you need to know about the Tyne Tour trip!
Contact: Vanny. Tell him to put you on the list now!
Price Costs are at a total of approx£42.50 per person, to include bus hire, fuel, camping fees, river fees, river insurance and Ceilidh ticket ( if you’re in the BCU let me know when booking for £2.50 discount), space is limited so book soon! The sooner you book, the sooner I know if we need a further bus!
Meeting: at the sheds at 5:30pm and help load the buses so that we can leave by 6.30pm.
This year’s trip takes place over the weekend of 3rd, 4th and 5th of November. Leaving the sheds at 6.30pm with a minibus and van (easy loading and unloading!) we travel to Hexam (near newCastle) for a weekend of fun! Friday night pitch tents, go to the Station pub. Saturday morning and its up bright and early, its a straight forward and verysociable paddle suitable for all abilities and
has a brilliant atmosphere (last year featuring hill side seal launches and the admirable flight of Captain Potts and his ship
The Sinkable), we camp at the get out (yey!) so your already at your tents. After sorting your tea we go up the hill for a bonfire and fireworks display, then back down the hill for the Ceilidh.
Assuming no more arrests this year, then we will be setting off for a river in the mid lakes on the sunday and back to liverpool in time for last orders!
I LOVE the Tyne Tour weekend, its brilliant fun,
a great paddle and by far the best trip of the semester!

Polo reports by Andy and Rachel. If anyone has photos of the polo, please post them or send them to Helen. Also please look on the calendar and note the dates of the next few similar tournaments coming up, cheers, Helen
Well done to everyone who played today, there was some cracking polo played, and no swimmers either! The guys team won 4 out of 5 of our games, only losing to last years BUSA winners Nottingham. We have an extremely promising team here, i reckon with training and practising playing as a team etc, we have BUSA already in the bag this time! The girls did well against some tough opposition too, winning half their games. lots of promise, but again, everyone needs to get used to who they’re playing with. More training and practice needed though! So practice at the docks on Wednesday! (see seperate announcement) Andy
I really enjoyed the polo yesterday. Ladies had a bad start, we were thrashed by a team of little boys from FOA (They’ll be scary when they develop muscles). But we definitely improved! Our last 2 games were both against Bangor uni ladies and we were a really similar standard to them, so the games were good. and we won them both I think. Ali did an excellent over-the-head-backwards shot which slammed into the goal!
I also thought that the people who were new to polo yesterday did brilliantly. they all got really involved in the games and listened to the advice that the rest of us were giving them, so that by the end we were playing together much better. Cheers for organising things Andy!
Bangor are really keen to set up some more friendy tournaments. In the past we’ve done these on thursday night sessions with Manchester and Lancaster uni’s, so maybe we could sort something out with them again as well as with Bangor. Wednesday afternoons would also be perfect for this! Rachel

Docks on wednesday, meet at the sheds at 1:15, same as two weeks ago. email me: a.m.raho@student.liverNOSPAMpool.ac.uk or ring/txt me: O7835631837 to say you want to play.
All abilities welcome, as long as you know which bit of the boat to sit in. If you are wanting to play regularly in the inter-university games at the weekends (like this one just gone), it’s important to get to these sessions, this is where the team-building will happen. make sure you’re there!

Polo ref course at the docks, starts 9am, watersports centre.
Totally necessary for anyone who wants to be a ref (obviously).
Also very very useful for all players, even if you have no intention of ever reffing, just for a proper explanation of the rules.
The day will include an explanation of all rules, discussion, followed by optional multiple choice exam qualification.
Course trainers: Mike Moffit and Dave Reynolds

weekend you have at least two canoe events to attend hooray! On Saturday eve, there is Smithdown 10 more details from Kaylia click “Read On” to get the full rules about where to meet, what to drink, all the golfing rules etc…….
On Sunday, Polo at the docks, meeting sheds at 8am see seperate notice. xhOk ppl,
Smithdown 10 will be happening this weekend on Sat 21st Oct. We have
decided to move the starting time to 6.30pm at the Boundary in hope that most
ppl will be there by 7!
For the freshers, there are 8 pubs that we will go into along smithdown, ending
at the Brookhouse (last orders 11.30pm)
We have decided to make this pub crawl a bit more interesting by playing a few
games along the way, which include a boat race in the second pub, clothes
swapping, ‘Fluffy bunny’, and a scavenger hunt type thing
Tony will say more on the night!
But your main mission will be to keep ur president safe (aka a raw egg), from
being smashed by other fellow drinkers!
We will think of a small appropriate pize for this.
See you all at the pool and hopefully sat night too!!!
Kaylia.xx
p.s, extra points for pulling a bar maid/man and buying socials secs a pint on
the night

This tournament is held down at the docks (outside), and we play other universities in a number of games in 6 tournaments throughout the year (5 games each tourament!!). The polo played, is of a good standard, but is totally fresher friendly, so anyone can play.
We need to be at the docks and on the water at 9:30, our 1st game being at 10 (an early start after the smithdown 10 the night before!- as lots of people kindly pointed out), so we need to meet at the sheds at 8am, in order to get kit and get down to the docks in time. The tournament will run until 3pm.
It’s a long day, bring a hot drink and probably some chocolate and sandwiches to keep you going, but there is a burger and hotdog bar if you don’t get up in time to prepare these.
If you want to play in the tournament this weekend, you must email me and tell me, before thursday, and please try to get to the pool session on thursday, as we will begin moulding as a team and making sure everyone knows the rules and tactics of the game for sunday.
If you don’t get to the pool session on thursday for training, and you haven’t emailed me before thursday (if you can’t make the pool session), you won’t be playing, i won’t know. please don’t just turn up on sunday morning un-announced, you’ll be disappointed.
I will see you in the pool on thursday,
Andy
