On Sunday we went to the Lakes, hooray. Sunny and not too cold. And full of water. Barrowback falls didn’t look lovely in the high level, so we abandonned the Leven, and chose the Crake instead, which was also running rather high. Quick check that there was actually space under Sparks Bridge - yes, possible to get under there upright without even rolling - and we headed to the get in.

Very nice, and bouncy, plenty of trees to weave between, but no portages, and a good, fast run. Just before Bobbin Mill rapid, suddenly realised that the water was very close to the underneath of the footbridge - some quick prayers and deck-hugging, especially from our intrepid C1er Martin, and our tallest paddler James, and Kaylia slightly knocked her noggin, but everyone got through, and styled the rapid, nice.

Then, a rather reduced group tried their luck on a very high Kent while the rest of us watched and shivered - Refreshing dips occurred at the beginning, and also just above L shaped weir, exciting.

Finished in sunshine, happy and ready to go to the Crooklands pub for beer and cuppatea, and to plan the next trip - good luck with the Slalom next weekend, and come to Deiniollen on the 7th 8th Feb, see Sam for details.

Paddlers were: JamesP, Sam, Martin, Will, Cath, Hannah, KatieL, ClaireM, ClaireP, Barry Wigan, Nick Wigan, Bob Wigan, Jenny Wigan, HelenH, Bubbs, Kaylia, Flic, HelenJ, Kev, Stu, Squirrel (have I missed one?). Big, big thanks to HelenJ for organising, toptastic! And to all the many drivers and rescuers.
