Polo League and Tournament entries 2009/2010

Here’s a list of all the polo stuff we’re planning this year, all info together in one place. All these polo dates, and other club trip dates, are also in our calendar, which we update.

The uni is entering teams in these leagues:

Local NW Uni league Men, Local NW Uni league Ladies and National Div 2 Ladies

and these one-offs

Christie Cup, BUCS inter uni, +possibly some summer weekend internationals.

More details:

Local NW Liverpool docks Uni league series - Open (men’s) team and Women’s team - this series of games is aimed at everyone, including folk who are new to polo - its a good opportunity for some fun games, to gain experience, and to practice ready for BUCS. Last year the women did really well, and the open team… had fun ;-) . The standard is very mixed, with some good teams and some complete novice teams. Although this league is aimed at encouraging Uni students, you do not have to be at Liv uni, or in fact any uni, to play - its open to everyone in our club. Dates are

Sun 1 November Liverpool Docks
Sun 6 December Liverpool Docks
Sun 21 February  Liverpool Docks
Sun 21 March Liverpool Docks

National Women’s Div 2 - Women’s team - well done for winning the Yorkshire league last year! This year, instead, we’re going for National div 2. Folk playing so far are: Flic, Kaylia, Sophie, Mary, Cath - Ideally, would be good to have 2 more on the team, so get in touch with Emily if you’d like to play. Dates are:

Sat 17 Oct Luton 5pm-9.30pm
Sat 5 Dec Luton 5pm-9.30pm
Sat 23 Jan Derby 5pm-9.30pm
Sat 27 Feb Derby 5pm-9.30pm

Christie Cup 2010 - Men’s team and Women’s team.  This is the traditional Liverpool vs Manchester vs Leeds three-way competition encompassing all sports disciplines across the uni. There will be competitions between all sports teams, from football to figure skating. For us, the discipline is Canoe Polo. In 2009, Liv Uni CC won it - let’s try to do the same again! To play, you need to be a student of Liv Uni, and you need to bring your AU (Sport Liverpool) card as ID. We need everyone from Liv uni to play or and everyone from the other unis/non students/folk not in a team to support / shout from the sidelines. Be sure to attend the Christie Cup Party afterwards, together with all Sports teams from Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. Date:

On or before: Wed 17 March 2010 - this is definitely the date of the party. Exact date of the polo fixture will be confirmed nearer the time - most likely it will be on the same day. Venue TBC - either Liverpool Docks, Leeds Olympic Pool, or Manchester Salford Docks.

BUCS 2010 - Open (men’s) team, Women’s team and Development (possibly including olds) team  - this tournament is the inter-university tournament of the year. Uni’s from all over the country descend on a waterpark in Hadfield, Doncaster, to play each other all weekend, as well as to party. The open and women’s teams will be made up of the best players available, and these must be members of Liverpool University, and must bring your AU (Sport Liverpool) cards as ID. The development team will be for anyone else who would like to go along, novices, students from JMU, hope etc, and ex students - usually this is a good opportunity for novice students to get tournament experience, supported by e.g. two or three ex-uni or other-uni-student players for team structure. Tell Emily early of your availability, as deadline for entry is very early. Date:

A weekend in late April/Early May, To Be Confirmed Soon. Hadfield Water Park, Near Doncaster.

Other weekend Tournaments:

There are many one-off polo tournements all over the country and abroad over the summer season. The most obvious one to enter is the Liverpool International, because its on home ground, organised by local club FOA. We can enter other tournements if there is interest - makes for a fun weekend for teams and supporters. As many teams as we can muster.

Liverpool International - usually a weekend in late June

London International - 14/15 Aug 2010

Hull International - some summer weekend, not sure when

Irish International, nr Dublin - usually a weekend in mid September
