Who’s who - 2006/2007 Committee

Who are the important (!?) people in the club? Here’s a list of some of them. If you need to contact the club, you can email our captain, or drop a line to our email list or on the forum.

Our captain is Vanny. His job is to do everything and to worry about the rest of us until his hair drops out. He’s arranged a calander of trips, starting off at beginner level and progressing steadily through each term - he can point you towards the organisers of each trip.   Our secretary is “Medic Dave”. Short for “Laura.” Obviously. You can ask anyone for info about joining the canoe club, but Laura is the best person as she is the only one with any sense - ask her for info and a form, and press some cold hard cash into her hand. In fact, just £15 does the trick. Bargain! She also is the best person to ask for advice about AU (athletic union).
Kim is our press officer - her job is to make stuff up and write it down and to generally be Lowis Lane. Our social secretaries are Tony and Kaylia. Under no circumstances should you ever attempt to drink them under the table. You have been warned. They will presently set a demanding timetable of pub-golf, brewery tours, underwater ice skating, spelling bees, smelling knees, knitting contests etc. Be warned, although these activities do not involve water or neoprene, they should nevertheless be treated as adventure sports. Social events will be announced on the email list and on the forum. Social events are usually prompted by a Very Good Reason: birthday, end of exams, day of the week with a “y” in it, etc.
Our money man (treasurer) is Naomi. Her main job is to work out what kit we need and to get it. She also has to count things, beans, etc, and make sure that they always add up to the number we thought of in the first place, like a magic trick.   Our Vice is Martin. His job is to worry about logistics etc. He’s a good person to ask for advice about how things work in the club, trips etc and the what, where, who, when and WHhhHHHHYyyy(????) of canoeing.
Our kit officers are Rosie and Cath. Please take good care of club kit. Its important to look after the kit you have borrowed and to make sure you keep track of it and return it to the sheds when you’ve finished with it. Kit does inevitably wear out and get broken, don’t stress about it, but DO tell us! If that happens, or if you notice that something is not working, then tell Rosie or Cath, and they will sew it together with fine and dainty silk thread. Or welding.

Tom is the slalom rep. And Helen is the other slalom rep. Slalom is a strange game. You have to go between stripey poles, sometimes in a pointy boat. Slalom can be very good for beginners, because of the emphasis on using the flow of the river to achieve your moves. Slalom is nice. Play slalom.   LLoyd and Andy are our polo reps. Polo. Is a devient canoe game. It is very fun and helps develop skills that will be useful to you on the river. We also put teams in for some tournements. If you’d like to play in one of the polo teams, make sure Andy or Lloyd have your contact details.

OCMs. That is “Ordinary Committee Members”. Lets not pretend that they are ordinary. Or even normal. But we’ve got several of them, and one day we’ll work out what they are for. Actually, mainly they are for making sure that the trips go smoothly, and providing a pool of valuable aquired knowledge. Think of them as the old, wise people of our village. Or, really, just as the old people. Matt W, Moley, Pete, Rob, Laura M, Jimbob, Alison

Other people. There are a whole bunch of folk who have a lot of input on making trips happen, and making them a success. Some of them are: Rachel, Will, Dom, Si, Ade, Matt C

Web geeks. Some people just are, well, nerds. For web page stuff, ask Si, Vanny or Helen. For getting on the email list, ask Dinny or Helen.

For videos, digital photography, canoe cam, head cam, head case, nut case, underwatercam and videos of general carnage, ask Aussie Dave, Splinky and Si.
