Who’s who - 2008/2009 Committee
Introducing LUCC committee and folk 2008/2009 - See Contacts page for how to get in touch.
Captain: Andy Rahoo
Hello there, I’m Andy.
This year i’ll be your captain, you can come to me with any problem or question you might have and i’ll do my best to help out, or tell the right people to help you instead. In the past I’ve been the Polo sec and last year i was Vice capt, so i’ve been around a while, and will try to remain so a little while longer. I started boating for the first time in my first year, 3 years ago and i’m about to start my fourth year at liverpool.
I’ve paddled all over Europe in France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany since then, as well as closer to home all over the UK.
It’s a good club to be in, and if you aspire to paddle lots and throw yourself into it, then it’s easy to get better and progress to a high standard during your time at the club. It’s my job to see that you do, (and to sort it out when things go wrong!!)
I’m probably your first point of calling, so don’t afraid to get in touch, i’m quite friendly

Vice: Stu Haywood
Stu is vice. Stu holds the world record for length of time living sewn into the fluffy inner of his drysuit. Do not, under any circumstances, let him out. Stu runs the pool sessions, decides on the games, decides on the new rules to the games so that he wins, runs the trips and bakes the cakes. Stu is running a fresher trip to Wales at the end of week 1, semester 1. It will be awesome.
Hi im stu.
Im The vic captain this year. What I do is make sure everyone is happy and the way we do that is by going paddlerling. Over the last few mounths I have been raft guideing in norway.
This year i will be found in bagot street and the pub and paddleing on the rivers of scotland wales and the lakes.
If you need anything just ask me and i will get andy to sort it out for you!”
Membership and Comms: Laura Bubbs
Laura B is in charge of membership, comms, and is our resident houdini paddle trick expert. Laura has all the forms you need to fill in to join the club, and she can take your silver coin and in return give you a shiny membership card.
Treasurer: Jon Watson
Jon is the money man, in charge of balancing the figures and cooking the fried breakfasts.
Kit Officer: Laura M
Laura M and ocm Andy Sq look after the kit, by mending, sewing, glueing, and laying on of hands - If you notice anything broken, tell them about it - this is important, because it helps us to get things fixed or replaced.
Social: Tammy and Finn
Tammy and Finn are in charge of all things social, AU night tickets, pub crawls, ice skating, random socials etc. They wield a lot of power, including the choosing of the fancy dress theme for the Xmas dinner.
Paddlers and Padlettes,
I’m Tammy. I’ll be your social sec this year along with Finn. I joined the club last year not expecting much and have been continuously proven wrong. LUCC is a vibrant, passionate club that strives to accomodate paddlers from all paddle backgrounds and abililities. You’ll find this canoe club willing to throw around new ideas and as well as work with older, more stabilised concepts that have grounded the crew.
As a student nurse I believe unabashedly in the work-hard, play hard mentality. Working a boat can be pretty tough and we all need to let our hair down and kick back. Having a good time off as well as on the river can make those trips and tournaments that much more enjoyable!
To cap it all off you learn alot from each other on the water and can tend to rely on other team mates , or alternative paddlers down a river. In short, it’s super important to feel comfortable with each other and what other way then to get social. Finn and I will be sorting out monthly Au nights, Bagot street (committee house) shenanigans and general pre/post paddle pandamonium for the posse ! Feel free to contact either one of us with your contributions to the aqua antics! Leave a post on the forum or drop me a line on facebook.
So until next time , take care and cya on the water ! .. X”
Polo Nick W and Sophie
Polo captains for the men’s and women’s teams. We play in inter-university tournaments at the docks, as well as BUSA. Lucc women won silver at BUSA 2008! If you want to be in the teams, let Nick and Sophie know. Training is in the pool some thursdays, and some Wednesday afternoons. BUSA polo in April. Polo is very fun, friendlies in the pool, or inter-uni competitions with the parties that go with them.
Slalom secretary: Mary
Slalom: Mary. Mary organises trips to slaloms, including the slalom beginner trip and trip to BUSA slalom in February - top event, with top party.
ello ello
I’m Mary, this years’ Slalom Sec. so for anything related to this delightful aspect of boating ask me! I have been paddling for a couple of years now and have, with the help of many club members been improve slowly and gently.
I’ll take this oppotunity to plug the slalom a little:
It basically involves going round a course on white water (of varying degrees of white-ness depending on the difficulty of course). The course is set out as gates… thus one must paddle either up or down stream
through the poles. Your run is timed and penalities are taken for missed or knocked gates. For the less seasoned paddler its a really fun way to improve your river skills and boat control and get a little competative about it. For those who’ve been paddling more then you can show off how good you are.
This, as you can see from the previous posts, is a well loved club.
There are lots of members of all shapes and sizes; two things
in common with everyone - a love of paddling and an affection for our local pub.
So, look forward to meeting you!”
Rodeo and Wild Water Racing officer: Flic
Flic is rodeo and WWR officer, so she organises the trip to BUSA wild water race in November and to the student Rodeo in May. Both of these will be excellent!
HI!!! im Flic!!!! Ive just finished my first year at uni studying Architecture and I work way harder than you!!! I have been paddling since I was 9 when I was small and cute… so, nothings changed! I Kayak Freestyle for Great Britain since 2005, and in 2007 I won 4th place at the World Championships. I have travelled around a bit, over to Oz, canada, europe, mainly all freestyling but last year I did a fair bit of river running over in Austria, Swtiz and ran a few sweet rivers up in Sweden.
Liverpool canoe club rocks!! I was welcomed with open arms and thrown immediatly down a river. Since I got to uni I have taken to Canoe Polo, its visious, its competitive its FUN and its in a kayak… what more could you want??
give me a sweet wave, my pink boat and lots of sun and im a happy chappy! See you on ze water!
Website; Helen H
Hiya, I’m HelenH. I run the website and technical things. I like paddling of all kinds. If you want to add stuff to lucanoe.info website, that’s great - I really want this website to be a big mixture of everyone’s thoughts, trip reports, pictures, results, announcements, paddling experiences and social stuff. You can either add stuff yourself, or mail it to me to do it. Any queries about the website, how to add your trip report or pictures, how to get added to the email etc, get in touch with me, ta h.
OCMs (Ordinary Committee Members)
Kim, Dom, Martin, AndySq are our OCMs (Ordinary Committee members). They help with trip running, advice, driving, mending equipment, training for coaches, and equipment advice.
hey I’m Andy, aka Squirrel. I started paddling in 2003 when i started studying at Nottingham Trent University. I used to paddle freestyle regularly at the National Water Sports Centre whitewater course in Nottingham, and worked at Desperate Measures kayak shop whilst at uni and for a while after I graduated. I then moved home to the Wirral, and decided to meet some new paddling partners at Liverpool Uni CC. The last few years have seen me spend more time paddling rivers and creeks in my big boat, but I enjoy getting out in my playboat when possible. I also play canoe polo on occasion. Since starting paddling, I have travelled all around the UK and Europe in search of whitewater thrills, which is awesome fun
Other folk
There are a whole bunch of other folk you’ll see regularly on the trips, new and old faces. For more who’s who, and to introduce yourself as well, go to the intro thread on the forum.
