I originally said it was a free weekend, but the uni have said they will not pay for the saturday night food/party, so Everyone needs to cough up £!0 I will be at the pool tonight, so as many of you please pay me then, and anyone I dont see I will be collecting on the Friday we leave.

Lets face it £10 for the weekend is pretty good going! Cheaper than staying at home me thinks!

I’m presuming everyone has joined the AU, cause if not you will have a wasted trip and will not be able to compete!!!

Everyone needs to bring/share a tent, and camping equipment, you need to bring breakfast and any snack/ lunch you want to eat on saturday/sunday. And rememeber it will be FREEZING cold and possibly raining, so bring lots of toastie warm clothes and prepare for a mucky weekend :)

See you later guys

Polo

Polo

Super early start at sheds prooved vital as we ferried people and boats down to Queens docks. Straight on at 9.20am was the girls team who kicked ass 3-0 in their first match. Emily and Sophie both playing for the open team, left a team with many freshers, all new to the sport and learning as they played. The freshers did well playng against some Polo teams who train weekly. There was no swims for liverpool in the morning and then after lunch I hear that Helen popped her deck and took a refreshing swim!

We played as a real team, finding spaces to pass too and dominating with our attacking. Only a few times were we forced to retreat in Defence. We really kept the pressure on throughout the day and only in our 2nd match did we come up against an equal standard of paddling in which we drew 3-3.

As a couple of teams didn’t show up it meant playing games almost back to back, which was beneficial as it prevented hanging around in wet kit. Although I was shattered after 3 matches so close together!

The girls do remain undefeated, and proud we are of that! keep up the good work!! You never know, we might do some training one day…

Clearly we still seem to be doing well in our mis-matching kit and broken boats. There was deffinatly a shortage of foam on the front and backs in true LUCC style.

Kayak Polo Sunday was an exiting day in the Kings Dock. Mens Open team enjoyed real team spirit and made substancial challenge to the rest of the teams. Only team we won was Manchester. As later prooved, we could have won Birmingham, if everyone would have been on time, but never mind, next time. However i do not remeber the scores for two other games. Main enemy was cold, which was not as bad as expected. Over all congratulations to Girls team which stayed unbeaten!

The first of three BUSA events, this is the chance to give your all and throw yourself down a nice grade III river as fast as you can!

Its a weekend away camping and theres tons of paddling to get done. Its a race against the clock, you can paddle down on your own with safety cover, or in a C2 with someone else… or if your really brave C1!!  But whatever happens YOU HAVE TO WIN!!!

We want people of all standards to come along, theres so much to learn from this trip, its a short section of white water you can run over and over again… practice your eddy skills, rolling and of course FAST FORWARD PADDLING!!!

This summer Europe hosted the World cup tour, starting in Prague where I heard it rained alot, then a week in Augsburg, Germany followed by the round up in Thun Switzerland.

I joined the GBR team in Augsburg at the white water slalom course. The competition was in a hole which took every ounce of energy to just stay upright in, never mind nail tricks. It was hard work and I finished in 24th place. Not too bad considering I’ve virtually had a year off freestyle kayaking.

The men’s paddling was spectacular to watch as they jumped very high into the air and executed some insane moves both left and right in order to score highly.

The weather for the trip was awesome, nice hot sunshine (unlike the UK was experiencing) which made putting on wet kit to train in a little more enjoyable. Even I ran out of spare dry kit!

Before driving straight to Thun I visited a kayaking friend out in Versam up in the Swiss mountains for a night. The house looked straight over the valley where they raft guide during the summer and ski during the winter. It was gorgeous so I’m totally migrating out there!

The competition in Thun is based right in the centre of the city on a wave which forms just once a year for a kayak event. This event got huge numbers of people watching due its location. There were hoards of people on looking the freestyle kayaking, king of the wave, Big air contest and a Rafting extravaganza. Thun is the venue for the world championships next September so it was good to experience the wave so I know what to train for next year.

The competition was tough; the pro kayakers from the USA were throwing down some awesome rides in the 45seconds on the wave. I finished 20th but really enjoyed watching the rest of the competition.

After the event and some crazy partying in the local club Cafe Mokka I drove to Bremgarten, a wave in a small town right outside Zurich. The water level was brilliant, forming a nice wave during the morning and it got even bigger after lunch. We surfed there for around 4 hours and then drove to the Rhinefall, the largest waterfall in Europe. There was an impressive amount of water going over that drop, so I figured I’d leave it for perhaps the next trip out to Europe, if anyone fancies it??

Hope you enjoy the photos, see you on the water soon!!

From the point of view of a Fresher, having never been to the French alps before I had a whale of a time. The sun shined (most of the time) and the water levels were high which made some awesome paddling possible.

The campsite was a stone’s throw from the slalom course so that had to be conquered first. With water levels dropping from what had been chaotic floods throughout France the rivers were brown and flowing super fast. There were few eddys but still plenty of rocks. On arrival the club went upstream to what was meant to be a placid introduction to alpine paddling. It turned out to be a swim festation as unsuspecting boaters came face to face with rocks and turned upside down on eddy currents. Everyone made it to the bottom, just, and from that moment on the swim handicap was obliterated daily. The swim beers began to come in thick and fast….

Every morning before the sun had even time to creep over the mountain all sleeping beauties were awoken by the morning monster… LLoyd. Enthusiastic and ready for action he rallied everyone into the bus and set off to the river for some more Liverpool river carnage. Fitting in two rivers a day, and each one progressively getting harder throughout the week everyone was beginning to discover the steep, exhilaration and thrill of the alpine rivers. (Or more the overwhelming sense of relief at being alive when they stepped foot on dry land at the take out point.)

I can’t remember the name of the river I was on yesterday, never mind those in the Alps, but the steep gorges and crystal water was everything the holiday brochure described. In-between rivers was cheeky banter, beers, meeting new people and plenty of French baguettes. The campsite was full of university students so it gave us a chance to mingle and eye up the competition for BUSA next year.

The annual meal in the Argentiere was a French 3 course meal, with a Captains Viagra initiation drink handed in Andy’s direction, congratulation’s boy! Maybe it will become a tradition?

On the whole thanks to everyone who organized it, but next year, can we make it say 3months longer? It sucks to be back in the UK!
